WELCOME TO THE WRITTEN WORD

He sounded it out. DS E F HOPPER TO AMA.

Translated: "This is from Hopper to Amanda". Parenting is a wide open window to wonderment.

Ripped

We hired a paving contractor to come and take out the debris from the yard at our new house.

There was a concrete pad of unknown proportions sitting at the end of the lot, semi-buried underground. Little patches poking their heads up. It turned out to be significant in size, and in the end, the guys took away five dump trucks of things. A massive stump. An entire load of giant asphalt pieces. Tree branches. A barbell.

We found a penny from 1916. The house was just ten years old then - of course, I thought of Christopher Reeve. We're here just traveling along in history ourselves, new owners of a place that's seen all kinds of times. Whoever dropped that penny, they almost certainly knew a war was going on in Europe. A loaf of bread cost three cents. And I'm standing here, ripping up the dirt, doing my thing.

Funny to me is that someone laid that concrete bed to do their thing, too. Progress isn't a myth exactly, but come on, it's complicated! We're just undoing someone else's dream here. But oh well, finders keepers.

So...this is a blog, huh?
